Guitarist/songwriter/ Billy Tsounis, aka Billy Astro started life in Athens, Greece, the original home of gods, showbiz, orgies, entertainment and education. Grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, absorbing all of it’s wild and beautiful primal energy, studied piano, classical guitar, theory, harmony, counterpoint, and after high school, moved to Boston, MA, to attend the Berklee College of Music. There he studied with jazz guitar great Garrisson Fewell and took some classes outside of school with avante-garde guitarist Roger Miller (Mission of Burma) as well as playing countless gigs with his hard rock and roll band throughout the New England and New York city area. Deciding that the cold east coast weather was not for him, Billy moved to Hollywood, CA, where he currently resides, enjoying all of it’s sunshine and it’s darkness. Here, he began to gig with goth and country/folk outfits and soon after signed to TON records and recorded the debut cd of his own art/punk/disco band Vasoline Tuner with which he proceeded to play throughout Southern California, Las Vegas, Arizona as well as doing live radio performances. Vasoline Tuner has had another 3 cd’s released since then on Billy’s own H 22 music label as well as having had it’s music placed on MTV’s road rules/extreme challenge show. Other recordings, performances and collaborations have been with: Swamp boogie psychedelic blues band Fat Nancy and Uncle Max’s Cosmic Band featuring on lead vocals Showbiz Alex Mitchell of Circus of Power fame. |
