Pete Mitchell aka Stratmaster is a guitarist from the U.K. He has just released his new book titled, Outside Looking In which sheds light on his thirty years of experience entertaining audiences around the world. Pete's recollections include trips to France, Spain, Australia, Japan and the U.S. He has worked as a manager and agent, met Muddy Waters, sold a telecaster to Mike Rutherford (Genesis), turned down a record deal and played the pub and club circuit. The following excerpt is taken from Outside Looking In.
We were meeting people from all over Europe here, as well as English tourists. Everyday there were boat trips around the islands and thirty or forty people would buy tickets for the barbecue. My job was to play guitar and entertain them throughout the trip. On board we would have cases of wine and stacks of chickens and burgers. Chris and I worked on these boats for a while, making some money and having a fabulous time. It was all about meeting people, entertaining them, and giving them a beach barbecue that they would never forget. I remember being drunk on one occasion and dropping a full magnum of Champagne on my foot. At the time, I didn't feel a thing but, the next day, I couldn't walk and ended up on crutches. A few weeks later, we happened to be hanging around the beach, where I was playing a few songs on the guitar. A guy in his late forties came along and stopped to listen. He was extremely well dressed, and introduced himself as Bob Miles. He said that he was having a party later that evening, and that if I agreed to play a few songs for him, we could both go. I have to say, we did wonder about this guy for a while, but in the end we decided to take him up on his offer. We found his house and boy, what a place! The house was packed, and I couldn't help but notice the two very attractive ladies sitting on either side of him. Sure enough, the corks were popping, drinks, were flowing and food was in the abundance.
